The committed Dspan Design Team applied an exceptional assortment of skills, experience and personalities to accomplish the delivery of the Paediatric Four Bed Ward and Classroom Block which was a typical “Infill Project”. This was achieved effectively with creative design details, prudent technical interventions and concise management skills to surmount the unique challenges encountered throughout the Project Life-cycle. We devised integrated, sustainable design solutions by working together creatively from the start of the project and by employing a cohesive co-management situation with the client with fast and timely dissemination of critical information to ensure that Project milestones and deliverables were regularly met. As a result, the Project was successfully delivered within Budget. Various Project Management techniques were tailored to suit the effective management of the project. This ensured that the Project was executed effectively with virtually minimal interruptions to the Hospital’s Operations.
The façade design follows a modern, simple and efficient statement design, similar to the existing buildings. The layout was designed around the adjacencies of the existing wards with the existing link corridor between the four bed ward and Surgery serving as the central circulation spine and the new buildings connecting with one junction that branch off on either side to provide efficient access to the two wings.
The positioning of exits between the existing wards and the new Paedriatic ward are to provide ease of access for staff working in these facilities. The pleasant and spacious wards and hallways were designed to provide visual and spatial appeal and to reduce the stress of long hospital stays. The Nurses’ station and reception point provides a social focus point for staff and patients alike.
The Classroom block which features three smaller rooms, openable into one large L-shaped multipurpose hall with foldable partitions was designed to capture the natural daylight and to create a visual connection to the courtyard.
The inclusion of the innovative “Filter Bed Sewerage System”, provides a more sustainable solution to the frequent desludgement of the former sewerage system.
The prime objective, to design and construct the New Paediatric Four Bed Ward and Classroom Block was thereby fulfilled. The New facility achieves high standards of functionality and seamlessly integrates into the existing facilities.
